Restaurant of the Week: ROK Social House

Surrounded by the  lights and excitement of the night life in Old Town Scottsdale is the ROK Social House.

Yet despite its location, a midst the pulsating club life, the ROK Social House is a lounge that lends itself to an ambiance of conversation, relaxation and great Korean street food.

ROK’s decor is neon and modern with intimate black sleek booths bordered by a long bar.  The environment vibrates with an eclectic mix of American sports, music, and Korean pop culture.

ROK first opened its doors three months ago.  Its manager, BK, is passionate about Korean culture and it shows in the cuisine offered at ROK.  He showcases the best combination of traditional Korean and Southwestern flavors.  Fusions like nachos, tacos, and burritos are all available.  But if you are a purist, Kalbi (a Korean version of short-ribs) is also available.

At the very heart of ROK, however, is a delicious sweet potato vodka called Soju.  It’s roughly half the strength of other vodkas and is very smooth and easily palatable.  It also serves as a delicious base for fabulously fruity type drinks as well.

ROK Social House is open Tuesday-Sunday 5 p.m.-2 am.   A pickup window is also open Wednesday-Sunday 5 p.m. – 3 a.m. ROK’s Social Hour, their version of Happy Hour, is available Tuesday-Saturday 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. and all day Sunday.
