Restaurant of the Week: El Palacio

El Palacio Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is an authentic Mexican restaurant started by the Serrano Family in Bullhead City in 1982. With high quality food and excellent service, their reputation grew and so did their restaurants. They now have six locations, mostly in Arizona and one in Nevada.

The fall weather is upon us, and El Palacio recently rolled out a new menu to celebrate. We were able to get a sneak peek and here are some of our favorites. We highly recommend you come hungry, because you will want extra room to try everything!

For starters we had the Flash Fried Cauliflower Nachos with queso sauce. This healthy version of a favorite was amazing. We weren’t sure what to expect, but they blew us away. They use cauliflower in place of chips and then layer like nachos. We also got to try the Carnitas Jalapeno Poppers, which is a deep fried pocket of cheese, served with extra cheese for dipping. This is a must for cheese lovers.

Next up was the Sonoran Dog served with fresh papitas fritas. You wouldn’t expect a hot dog at a Mexican restaurant, but this wasn’t your average dog. It was flavorful and had all the perfect toppings to accent such as jalapenos, onions and cheese. The tacos we sampled were the Salmon Taco and Lengua Tacos, which is a classic Mexican dish using tongue. The meat was very tender and a table favorite.

Other Mexican classics we sampled included the Tia’s Enchiladas Cast Iron Skillet and the Mexican Style Picadillo Fried Empanada, which was our favorite of the evening.

Make sure you leave room for desserts for favorites such as fried ice cream, sopapillas and our favorite frutitas. Frutitas are filled with strawberries, coconut and cinnamon apples, deep fried, and then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.
