The House Brasserie in Old Town Scottsdale has released its new brunch menu and it is as eclectic and wonderful as the 1939 bungalow where the restaurant is located.
Chef Matt Carter and his team have had a busy past year. They opened Fat Ox on Scottsdale Road and a second location of The Mission, located in Kierland Commons within six months of each other. The House Brasserie has not been neglected, though, and recently they unveiled a new brunch menu that is both creative and delicious.
The Tableside Mimosa Cart Service is an elegant touch for a brunch staple. Fresh juice makes all the difference in a good mimosa. There are also other specialty cocktails available. “Coffee is for Closers” – featuring Press Cold Brew coffee – is perfect if you want a little caffeine with your early-day booze. If you’re feeling tropical, “The Snowbird” is a tiki-style drink that will go down even more easily as the temperatures rise in Scottsdale. (Hopefully this snowbird doesn’t go back to the midwest like some others we may know.)

To start your meal, the Banana Blueberry Bread with maple butter is moist and fresh. Although the bread needs no accompaniment, the maple butter is too good to pass up. The Roasted Zucchini with heirloom tomato and piquillo pepper ricotta has a substantial kick at the end. If your morning cup of coffee didn’t wake you up, this may do the trick. The charred brussel sprout leaves are almost good enough to steal the show on this dish.
Some of the standouts in the brunch entrees are the Everything Spiced Biscuits with Pastrami and the Pork Belly Bahn Mi. The “Everything” in the Everything Spiced Biscuits could easily be referring to the perfectly poached egg that sits atop the biscuit and pastrami. The paprika hollandaise is creamy but not too rich or overpowering. The Pork Belly Bahn Mi has kim chi, vietnamese slaw and a sambal aioli. If you’ve never tried the traditional Vietnamese sandwich, The House Brasserie version is an ideal introduction.
Dessert is often an afterthought with brunch, but make sure to save room. One of the desserts is The Pavlova. It has roasted apple slices and bavarian cream, which sits inside a crisp crust with a cider-based sauce. It is as rich and drool-worthy as it sounds.
Brunch at The House Brasserie is served Saturday and Sunday from 11 p.m. to 3 p.m. and reservations are recommended.
