Restaurant of the Week: The Halal Guys

NYC’s famous food cart, The Halal Guys officially opened the first Arizona brick-and-mortar location in Tempe near Arizona State University in January 2017.

The fast-casual concept serves various Middle Eastern dishes and is known for their gyro sandwiches, chicken-and-rice platters and the famous white and red sauces.

While it is a popular spot, the process is efficient and fast, getting customers through the line in a reasonable amount of time.

They pride themselves on only using high-quality products like their chicken, which has never been frozen and is marinated and seasoned overnight, then cooked and chopped on the grill and served directly to their plate. Not having any knowledge of The Halal Guys prior to them arriving here in Arizona, we were pleasantly surprised by how flavorful the chicken was!

The menu options are pretty simple, which we liked. Less is more, right?! Choose from a sandwich or a platter, and choose chicken, gyro, chicken/gyro combo or falafel. Then choose from toppings such as lettuce, tomato, jalepeno, etc. We recommend adding a side of hummus as well, and if you manage to save room for dessert, they serve a delicious Baklava.

Their white and hot sauce are famous and we could see why. Warning – use the hot sauce VERY sparingly! It really packs a punch.

The Halal Guys in Tempe is open 11am – 11pm Sunday – Wednesday, 11am – 4am Thursday – Saturday (great late night eats!).
