Restaurant of the Week: Doughbird

Doughbird is the latest Sam Fox restaurant concept located in Arcadia. The menu, created by Sam Fox and Chef Clint Woods, combines two styles of cuisine – pizza and rotisserie. It might seem like an odd combination, but they somehow made it work beautifully and we loved every dish we tried!

The 5,550-square-foot space has a Northern California-inspired atmosphere that is both relaxed and elegant – something Fox Restaurant Concepts has seemed to master well. Their restaurants typically are welcoming while also having a the perfect level of class and sophistication, and Doughbird is no exception. The focal point of the room is the wood-burning pizza oven made of stunning sky blue subway tile. When the weather is nice, guests can enjoy the semi wrap-around patio featuring an outdoor fireplace and views of Camelback Mountain.

Doughbird’s menu features a seasonal rotation of 12 to 15 pizzas and four slow-roasted rotisserie options served with classic comfort sides and unique sauces. There is also a selection of sandwiches, salads and desserts.

First and foremost, you must start your meal with the Lebanese Hummus with heirloom tomatoes and hearth bread for your appetizer. You will not be disappointed.

Some of our favorite menu items include the Apple & Goat Cheese Salad with red grape, arugula, fennel, smoked almond and sherry vinaigrette; the Crispy Pastrami Pizza with aged gruyere, pickled mustard seed, purple kale and rye; Barbeque Pulled Chicken Sandwich with arugula, charred onion, mayo and fontina; Rocky Free Range Chicken and Caramelized Cauliflower from the rotisserie section. For side dishes, we recommend the Brussels sprout & kale, quinoa tabbouleh and macaroni & cheese.

We were pleased to find they offer a house made gluten-free pizza crust, which we might dare to say is one of the best gluten-free pizza crusts we’ve eaten in the Valley!

They offer a great selection of beers and wines as well as cocktails. “The Local” cocktail, made with whole strawberry, Arcadia grapefruit vodka and lemon was our favorite.

Be sure to save room for dessert. The Elvis is a must-try! It is a peanut butter and chocolate parfait with banana, whipped cream and bacon sandies.

They do offer a kids menu as well.

Doughbird is open Sunday – Thursday 11:30am – 9:30pm, Friday – Saturday 11:30am – 10pm.
