Fabulous People: Jeff Stokes

Jeff Stokes is the VP of HYPOXI North America, which is a low-impact exercise method that is up to 3 x more effective at burning stubborn fat in targeted areas than traditional exercise. Already very popular in Australia and Europe, Jeff took on the task of opening the first U.S. HYPOXI location right here in Scottsdale! Not only is his hard work and passion for HYPOXI something we admire, but his ability to juggle being a great father, husband and an overall giving person is what makes him truly fabulous. jeff-stokes-headshotHometown: Annapolis, Md.

First job: First real job after college was a Membership Advisor & Personal Trainer for a health club organization in the Washington DC metro area. My first summer job was a lifeguard… and yes I eventually did the Baywatch thing as a lifeguard on the coast in Ocean City, Maryland. Best summer job ever!

Favorite AZ restaurant: Red Robin Gourmet Burgers… because my kids love that place. Sorry nothing fancy, but as a parent, I love seeing my kids happy!

Person who has impacted your life the most: My Dad. Growing up, he was my coach, my friend, and my mentor… and has always been there for me. He taught me to be active and enjoy life. My love for family, sports, travel and healthy living all comes from him!

Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: Of course my kids and being a great role model for them, but also managing the ups and downs of being an entrepreneur and learning from every challenge while remaining humble during the successes!

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Corporate layoff in 2010. However, it drove me to follow my passions and jump back into the world of being an entrepreneur. As they say, “everything happens for a reason”

Someone who inspires you: To be honest, I’m inspired by anyone who has overcome obstacles in life to achieve their dreams through hard work, dedication and perseverance.

Favorite quote: “Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.” – John Wooden, Legendary College Basketball Coach

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Follow your heart and passion. If you are sincerely passionate about helping others and changing people’s lives, the health & fitness industry is very rewarding. However, it’s not easy and owning a business requires huge sacrifices. Be prepared to work long hours and put the needs of others first.

What makes someone fabulous: To me, it’s all about balance, being grateful and enjoying life. If someone can work hard, enjoy quality time with family & friends, be active and make healthy choices while remaining happy and grateful for what they have…life is good!
