Hometown: Albuquerque, New Mexico
First job: In high school, I worked at The Body Shop. I was so proud to be working for a company that was an innovator in the cosmetics industry for coming out against animal testing and campaigned for social & green issues. This job helped my hone my sales skills, and even though I was the youngest person working in the store, I was always their top sales person.
Favorite AZ restaurant: Arizona has definitely seen an insurgence of great dining options and local eateries. I love & live to try new restaurants around town! Picking a favorite is hard, but The Mission is always at the top of my list. I love the sophisticated, yet casual vibe of the restaurant. The cuisine is always overflowing with fun flavors, and the cocktails never disappoint! The Crispy Pork and Cola Lime Glaze and the Cucumber Lime Margarita are my staples.
Person who has impacted your life the most: Both my mom and my dad have made an impact on my life the most. They have shown me that hard work and resilience will always pay off and that if you set your mind to anything you can make it happen. Being genuine and loyal goes a long way. Being true to yourself is always best.
Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: My biggest accomplishment is my two-year old son, Zachary. Seeing him grow, learn new things every day, and become his own little person is the most rewarding job I’ve ever had. Being a mom is HARD but so worth it. I am forever changed knowing that this little person is learning everything from my husband and myself and our incredible, supportive families. It’s pretty amazing!
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Changing careers is an exciting, yet scary endeavor. After investing 15 years in the fashion/skincare industries, I’m following my passion. Coming to the realization that I wasn’t loving what I was doing anymore was tough. I felt that so much of my identity was wrapped into my career. Taking the time to discover my true passion and step outside my comfort zone was scary but ultimately taking a leap of faith, trusting my intuition, and not being afraid to start at the very beginning again is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and my family.
Someone who inspires you: Sheryl Sandberg has always inspired me. Her ability to be a leader in male dominated industries as well as her ability to persevere after tragedy is inspiring.
Favorite quote: “It is the ultimate luxury to combine passion and contribution. It’s also a very clear path to happiness.” – Sheryl Sandberg
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: You don’t know what you don’t know – and that’s okay. Be resourceful, ask for help and find what drives you and gets you excited. Surround yourself with great people who add positive value to your life and don’t be afraid to rid yourself of those who provide more toxic energies.
What makes someone fabulous: Having the confidence to chase your dreams, learning to say no to the people and things that don’t benefit your values and goals, and waking up every day determined to make the day better than yesterday makes you a fabulous person.
