Grand Canyon Conservancy announces the 14th Annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art at Grand Canyon National Park, taking place Sept. 10 to Jan. 16. The event provides a unique experience for visitors and a venue for talented artists–as well as acts as a fundraiser to benefit an art venue at the South Rim.
Since 2009, the annual Grand Canyon Celebration of Art has invited participating artists to paint “en plein air” for a week at the national park. The works that the artists create during this time frame are shown alongside studio-produced pieces at the historic Kolb Studio, located on the edge of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Grand Canyon Village. The exhibition and sale that extends for four months.
Grand Canyon Celebration of Art schedule:
Plein Air at Grand Canyon: Saturday, Sept. 10, to Friday, Sept. 16
Various locations along the South Rim, Grand Canyon National Park
Most artists prefer to paint in the morning and evening when the canyon is most vibrant.
Artist Paint Out: Friday, Sept. 16, 3 to 7 p.m.
Between Verkamp’s Visitor Center and Thunderbird Lodge, Grand Canyon National Park
The artists will take part in a “Paint Out” where visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists interpret the ever-shifting light and shadow, amazing landforms, and vibrant colors of Grand Canyon. This event is open to the public, and the completed paintings will be available for purchase onsite.
