Sustainable Lifestyle: Selfcare

Tracey Martin is a Sustainable Lifestyle Leader and author and has been a certified Transformational Life Coach as well as health, life and wellness advisor for more than 25 years. Tracey’s mission is simple, to protect our natural resources, planet, and our most precious resource: humankind. She is sharing her knowledge with us in this weekly column and this week Tracey shares how self-care can lead to healing the world.

Have you ever thought about “healing” yourself? With everything going on in the world today – sexual harassment claims, tragic fires in California, poverty, starvation and terror attacks. Whew, our world is suffering and can appear broken at times.

We always ask, “why doesn’t someone do something” – well, why can’t that someone be YOU? I believe this starts with taking care of yourself. A full on “self-care” campaign. When we feel beautiful, fulfilled and valued, we vibrate differently in the world. I am not speaking to the conventional or propaganda driven ad campaigns, of what they define as “beautiful.” I am speaking from the inside out. Healing your health, your destructive self-talk and thoughts and your heart. You can use these self-care rituals to heal yourself and others.

1. Take Care of Yourself – is just plain beautiful. When you feel beautiful, you perform beautifully in life. You are more kind, caring and helpful. This mental well-being can bring about a physical well-being in you and those around you. Take some time to make a DIY facial, soak in a warm bath and apply massage oil, use a DIY sugar scrub in the shower. These might seem like frivolous acts, but done with intention the can be some of the best forms of self-care. Find a great book, curl up and get lost in it.

2. Connect to Community – When we are hurting, we sometimes feel alone and alienated. Share what you are going through with your group of friends or even some strangers. I am pretty sure you will not be the only one. Feeling that we “belong” in a particular space can heal our soul. Just knowing that you are not the only one experiencing this can be so powerful. Giving others permission to heal offers hope and wisdom to many. Everyone needs to feel a connection. After all, we are ALL connected.

3. Be in Service – The very thing we need in our lives, we must give away. If we want more love, then give it away. Volunteer at shelters, retirement homes and with animals. If you feel you need a new start in life, volunteer at a local “Fresh Start” program. These organizations help get women back on their feet after life has knocked them down. You just might be inspired to ignite your own fire and light others along the way.

January 2018 is just around the corner. Begin to think about designing the year you want to live. Don’t leave it to default. Be intentional with your plans and goals. However, you must remain flexible. Things may not go as planned, but you must lay a plan out to see where things could go. They just might end up better than you thought.

Let us know if we can help with any of your plans for 2018.

Sustainably Yours,
Tracey xo
