Restaurant of the Week: VooDoo Daddy’s

VooDoo Daddy’s Steam Kitchen is a brand new fast casual restaurant in Tempe serving up New Orleans inspired dishes.

Founded by Ron Lynch, who is known for his success with Tilted Kilt and Schlotzsky’s, the VooDoo Daddy’s concept is an effort to offer Cajun food in a fast and affordable manner. Ā

It is obvious that a lot of effort was put into the decor and design of this restaurant. Brightly colored murals decorate the interior walls with images of late night jazz players dancing on piano keys. There is a corner patio that surrounds the exterior with lush trees, black and white striped umbrellas and red seating. Floor to ceiling windows that collapse entirely into the walls will allow the inside to flow right onto the patio, perfect for when the weather cools down.

Every dish is made fresh-to-order and you can watch your meal being prepared right in front of you in the stainless steel steam kettles. From Cajun Jambalaya, Red Beans and Rice and Shrimp Po Boy Sandwiches to everything in between, it is obvious that Lynch wanted to ensure the menu truly encompasses authentic New Orleans flavors.

When ordering, you can select your cayenne pepper heat level from a sliding scale of zero to ten. While every dish we tried was delicious, our absolute favorite was the Shrimp & Grits, made with Shrimp and Tasso Ham cooked in a creamy butter sauce on a bed of white cheddar cheese grits.

We also recommend saving room for some Beignets for dessert – made fresh, they come out warm and fluffy.

There is also a selection of natural sodas and teas, craft beers and porch wines.

VooDoo Daddy’s is family friendly, offering a kid’s menu as well.
