Grand Canyon Conservancy Launches Virtual Tour

One of the natural wonders of the world, a stop at the Grand Canyon is undoubtedly on just about everyone’s bucket list. But what if a visit to this natural beauty was as easy as hanging out in your own living room?

A new free app, Xplore Grand Canyon created by TimeLooper and brought to you by Grand Canyon Conservancy, is bringing the Arizona landmark to audiences worldwide by allowing users to walk around the South Rim in your own home via virtual and augmented technology. That’s right, you can now talk a stroll along the trails at the Grand Canyon while also grabbing a snack from the pantry or running a load of laundry. Users can also activate educational content curated by Grand Canyon Conservancy and Grand Canyon National Park via the app.

“We had been discussing virtual reality options for a while, and when we found out about the TimeLooper Foundations Program, it was a no-brainer for us to get involved by developing a tour of Grand Canyon National Park’s South Rim,” says Mindy Riesenberg, Grand Canyon Conservancy’s Director of Marketing and Communications. “This app will bring viewers to scenic viewpoints, historic buildings, the Colorado River, and exhilarating inner-canyon trails, all while staying safe at home.”

Xplore Grand Canyon by TimeLooper is available for download immediately on Apple devices, and later on Android devices. Users are invited to watch the introductory video to learn how to scan an area and use the app, and then visit areas like Bright Angel Trail, Mather Point, El Tovar Hotel, Kolb Studio and more while learning about the history, culture and wildlife of the Grand Canyon.
