Amangiri Partners with Heard Museum for New Exhibit

To further connect its guests with the surrounding spirit of the land, Amangiri, a luxury resort located in Utah, has joined forces with Phoenix-based Heard Museum.

Located on 900 acres of land, Amangiri is a five-star luxury resort in Canyon Point, Utah. The destination is surrounded by vibrant monumental rock formations and celebrates the spirit and beauty of the unique desertscape. To further connect its resort guests to the land’s natural beauty, Amangiri has partnered with Phoenix-based Heard Museum, the world’s leading museum for advancing and interpreting American Indian art.

Together, the duo has created an extension of the recently opened exhibit at Heard Museum, Substance of Stars, a multi-sensory experience focusing on the sky knowledge and storytelling from four indigenous communities through digital media formats. To represent each native nation included in Substance of Stars, at least two indigenous curators and historians representing each group have collaborated on the exhibition. Among these four is filmmaker and photographer Steven J. Yazzie, a Navajo native whose homeland in Dinétah is adjacent to Amangiri and extends across Arizona, Utah and New Mexico.

“I hope the new photography work encourages viewers to reflect on the layers of history and culture embedded in the landscape, and contemplate their own place within it,” says Yazzie, in a press release.

Following the debut of Substance of Stars at the Heard Museum is the extension of the display, Substance of Stars: Meditations and Explorations, located at Amangiri. The new exhibit was created by a series of works by Yazzie, focusing on ethereal themes and exploring historic landscapes. Yazzie aims to showcase to visitors a deeper connection to the natural world and its cosmos.

“This is the first time since Amangiri’s opening that we welcome a pop-up exhibition on property, and we could not think of a better partner than the Heard Museum to curate a unique selection of artworks from local artist Steven J. Yazzie. We are delighted to add the Heard Museum’s world-renowned expertise in Native American arts to our cultural programming as we are committed to share the rich traditions of our local community with our guests,” says Audrey Huttert, general manager of Amangiri, in a press release.

Amangiri’s exhibit, Substance of Stars: Meditations and Explorations, will be open until June 30, while the Heard Museum display has no current end date.
