Fabulous Arizona got the opportunity to interview national recording artist Kelley James, who’s music is a fascinating collection of acoustic guitars, hip-hop beats, thoughtful lyrics and freestyle flows.
James has toured nationwide with O.A.R., performed over 600 shows in the past three years, including touring Australia four times and headlined various sponsor events including several after parties for the Warren Miller film tour, Supercross after parties, SWAT Spring Break Trips and more. In addition, Kelley has shared the stage with Mike Posner, Kate Voegele, T-Pain, Slightly Stoopid, Joshua Radin, Shwayze, Sara Bareilles, Tyrone Wells, LMFAO and more.

Q: When did you know you wanted to be a musician?
A: I knew i wanted to do it as a career ar 16 years old. San Francisco. Fillmore. My favorite local band at the time Stroke 9 had just sold out a national tour and came back to SF for the last show. I was front row with my elbows on the stage looking up at those dudes and I said to myself “I wanna be these guys”
Q: Who was your musical idol(s) growing up?
A: Nirvana/STP/pearl jam/sound garden were the first. Dave Matthews and Ben Harper second. Sublime and green day third then dispatch OAR fourth. Throughout it all I listen to hip hop music.
Q: What inspires you?
A: Other people’s life stories – mainly pivotal moments that shaped who they’ve become.
Q: Where is your favorite place to perform?
A: Midwest shows are great. Red rocks was legendary. Any house of blues is always solid.
Q: What is something you enjoy doing outside of music?
A: Surfing. Every day I’m home.
