It is that time of year again! Even though we may not have snow here in Arizona, we certainly still have plenty of holiday cheer. Check out these great holiday events and activities in the Phoenix area.
Glendale Glitters
November 26, 2010 – January 8, 2011, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. nightly
Glendale Glitters in Historic Downtown Glendale is a stunning display of 1.5 million lights that illuminates 16 blocks of Historic Downtown Glendale, making it the largest free holiday light display in Arizona. The Glendale Glitters kick-off celebration will be November 26 and 27 from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. The lights will shine brightly every night November 26, 2010 and January 8, 2011 from 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. Each Friday and Saturday of December will feature events with vendors in addition to the lights display, finishing with the Glendale Glitter & Glow Block Party on January 8, 2010.

ZooLights at the Phoenix Zoo
November 25, 2010 – January 9, 2011, 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. nightly
Every year, the wildlife at the Phoenix Zoo gives way to wild lights during ZooLights, the largest holiday light display in all of Arizona. More than 3.5 million lights will glow and 600 glimmering animal light sculptures, unique only to the Phoenix Zoo, will swing through trees, hop across lawns, and sparkle in places where they’re least expected.

Snow What Fun at Desert Ridge Marketplace
November 22, 2010 – December 24, 2010 (except for Thanksgiving), promptly at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. nightly
Desert Ridge Marketplace will be bringing snow to North Phoenix for the Holidays! It will snow each night between November 22nd through December 24th (except for Thanksgiving) promptly at 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. for 8 minutes within the District at Desert Ridge Marketplace. Out of thin air, flakes of fluffy white snow will float down from the sky, transforming the AMC Fountain and Fireplace at Desert Ridge Marketplace into a living snowglobe. Just as mysteriously as the snow appears – it disappears without a trace; leaving behind magical holiday memories that last a lifetime.

Candy Wonderland Gingerbread Village at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa
December 6, 2010 – January 2, 2011
Candy Wonderland Gingerbread Village in the grand lobby at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa features a Willy Wonka-esque fantasyland with a chocolate river, fudge room, chocolate eggs, JW bars, hidden golden tickets and characters in addition to numerous hand-crafted gingerbread houses. World Pastry Champion Executive Pastry Chef Kaushik Chowdhury and his team at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort spent more than 400 hours creating the eight-foot tall, 20-foot by 20-foot work of art. The renowned gingerbread display features 500 pounds of gingerbread dough, 250 pounds each of dark, milk and white chocolate and 150 pounds of sugar. A moving toy choo choo train circles the lifelike candy-filled village.

Holiday Lights at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park
December 10, 2010 – January 1, 2011 (excluding December 24, 25 and 31) 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
The Holiday Lights at McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park features festive holiday lights and displays turning the Railroad Park into a winter wonderland. Opening night festivities will include a tree lighting ceremony, entertainment and a visit from Santa. Santa will be at the park through December 23. A train ride is $2.00 and the carousel ride is $1.00 each, with children under three riding free with a paying adult.
