Arizona’s newest performing arts organization, Mesa Jazz and Blues Theater, is set to makes it debut in October. The nonprofit was created for the education and preservation of America’s music: jazz, blues and R&B.
The grand opening extravaganza will take place on Oct. 2 at 6:45 p.m. and will begin with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a lineup of performances by local talent. The Rhythm Edition Band, Jeff Burkett (as Sir Elton John), Sandra Bassett, Beth Lederman Jazz Trio, Big Pete Pearson and others are set to take the stage.
The star-studded show marks the start of Mesa Jazz and Blues Theater’s 2022-23 season, which will spotlight local musicians, nationally and internationally recognized artists, educational clinics and opportunities for young talent and youth groups. The 300-seat venue features a top-of-the-line sound system and a state-of-the-art LED stage lighting system.
In addition to the grand opening event, Mesa Jazz and Blues Theater has performances scheduled through April 2023. Performers include Nicole Pesce, The Sugar Thieves, Jackie Lopez, Rita Lim, and Chadwick Johnson, as well as a special four-day event with legendary drummer, Mike Clark.
Mesa Jazz and Blues Theater was founded by Bill Travis, a lifelong musician and a longtime Mesa resident. He decided to open the venue after realizing the city did not have a theater for live music that specialized in top-level jazz and blues.
Tickets are now on sale for the entire season, with most ranging from $24.50 to $39.50. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.mesajazzblues.com.
