Phoenix’s Iconic Blues Music Joint Gets Revamped as Chars LIVE

One of the Valley’s most beloved nightclubs, Chars LIVE—formerly known as Char’s Has the Blues—has officially reopened to the public, now under a brand new ownership and management team.

Following its closure in March 2020 with the coronavirus pandemic, Chars underwent a massive rebrand—seeing new interior renovations, a fresh rotating cocktail menu and a wider variety of food and beverage options which can now be enjoyed outdoors on the lot’s expansive patio space.

While much of the venue has been given a more modern touch, locals and tourists alike can still appreciate (and enjoy) the spot’s legendary charm, which has made it a Valley staple for good music and good fun for 35 years.

“Chars is an institution in the Melrose District and across Phoenix. We’ve upgraded the space, but we’re excited to keep and honor the happy, open vibe that everyone came to know and love,” says David Cameron, co-owner, in a release.

Food trucks from the Phoenix Street Food Coalition will now also be in attendance at Chars to help with the spot’s theme of an ever-rotating menu. Visitors will too be treated to a wide variety of music genres on stage, including everything from jazz acts and ska bands to reggae tunes, DJ sets and more.

The 2,245-sq.-ft. club will be open Sunday through Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. and Thursday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m.
