Restaurant of the Week: Taco Guild

Holy guacamole! The perfect place to enjoy a street taco is inside a church.

The Taco Guild is the newest Phoenix restaurant hotspot located right inside a deconsecrated Methodist church on the northwest corner of 7th street and Osborne.

Fabulous Arizona was present at their recent soft opening and after taking a quick tour of the majestic 65 year old building, Fab AZ sat down to enjoy a delightful lunch prepared by Guild Master Matt Janiec.

We were greeted at our table by an extensive list of premium margaritas and sangrias to choose from,; each made with fresh ingredients and daily squeezed fruit juices. Our favorite was the La Flaca margarita and we were blown away by the over 150 different tequilas to choose from.

We tried a variety of appetizers including; one of the three different guacamoles (made either chunky or smooth for your preference), the Schreiner’s Chorizo Albondigas, Fresh Ceviche of the Day, and the Fire Roasted Green Chile Queso. We recommend trying anyone of these items as they are great starters to share and won’t disappoint the palette.

But the highlight of the first courses was the Grilled Romaine Salad. Quite honestly one of the best salads we’ve ever had. It is brushed with cracked black pepper olive oil and grilled, topped with a grape tomato-basil concasse, bleu cheese, jalapeño bacon bits and creamy cilantro dressing.

Heading into the middle part of our meal, Fab AZ was excited to try their eclectic twist on the traditional street taco. At the Taco Guild one can savor a variety of unconventional tacos; such as their Peking Duck taco paired with plum sauce, fire roasted poblano apricot compote and fried Brie cheese. Or for the more adventurous, why not try the Thai  Snapper taco cooked in coconut green curry and garnished with a sweet Thai slaw. We enjoyed the Molida Lamb taco the best. It is served with Creole aïoli, bleu cheese and sweet potato hay.

The end of our journey consisted of the Prickly Pear Sorbet. A lovely ending to a satisfying eating experience.

The Taco Guild is now open. Happy Hour is featured every Monday–Friday from 3pm–6pm, Saturday from 11am–6pm and Sunday 2pm–close.
