Restaurant To Try This Week: Old Town Whiskey

There are so many amazing restaurants in the Valley that Fab AZ would like to take the time to recognize a few every week. This week, we would like to recommend Old Town Whiskey in Downtown Scottsdale at The Saguaro.

Old Town Whiskey, a bar evocative of an old-time frontier drink parlor features a collection of domestic spirits and artfully crafted cocktails alongside classic American dishes.

Old Town Whiskey serves a wealth of whiskies and inventive cocktails alongside affordable, tasty bar food, prepared with Chef Garces’ signature flair. An all-day menu, specially crafted by Chef de Cuisine Dave Conn will include: Raw Bar selections of seasonal oysters and clams; Bar Snacks, such as house-made cheese puffs, fried shrimp, deviled eggs, and tater tots; and a selection of House-Cured Pickles, served in a miniature mason jar with black olive tapenade, whipped ricotta and toasted sourdough, including Truffled Cauliflower, Green Beans and Shallots and Nopales and Prickly Pear.

At Old Town Whiskey, one of the standout dishes will be their burger, originally made famous at Chef Garces’ Village Whiskey in Philadelphia. At Old Town Whiskey, the beef will be procured from Painted Hills farm, which uses only pasture raised cattle with no added hormones or antibiotics. The patties will be enriched with Kobe fat to create a burger that is delightfully juicy and remarkably easy to eat, firm enough to hold together but tender enough to yield easily to the bite. Offerings will include: Old Town Burger, 8 oz. burger served on a sesame seed roll, tomato, Boston bibb and house-made Thousand Island dressing; Whiskey King, 8 oz. burger topped with maple bourbon glazed cipollini, Rogue blue cheese, applewood smoked bacon and foie gras; and Veggie Burger, a black bean and lentil patty with guacamole and pickled red cabbage. Additional burger toppings are also available, including: Horseradish-Crab Salad, Grafton Cheddar, Fried Egg, Pickled Anaheim Chiles and Truffled Mushrooms. Other menu items will include a selection of duck fat fries, salads, sandwiches and milkshakes, prices will range from $3 to $26.

Old Town Whiskey will also catalogue a veritable library of over 100 varieties of whiskey, bourbon, rye and scotch from Scotland, Canada, Ireland, United States and even a few Japanese options. For those who desire something other than whiskey, a carefully chosen list of wines and American craft beers will also be offered. In addition, an exciting array of 8 House Cocktails is divided into two categories, Prohibition, or classic cocktails, and Repeal, more contemporary, modern takes. Classic “Prohibition” cocktails include: Philadelphia Fish House Punch, a favorite of George Washington’s interpreted by Chef Garces with Whaler’s dark reserve rum, peach brandy, cognac, lemon, tea and spiced sugar; and The Whiskey Sour, Four Roses Bourbon Whiskey, lemon, sugar, orange bitters and egg white. Contemporary “Repeal” cocktails include: Ginger Rogers, Tangueray 10 Gin, ginger, lemon, rubarb and sparkling rose; and De Rigueur, Bulleit Rye, aperol, grapefruit, lemon, honey and mint. Old Town Whiskey will be open from 11 a.m. until midnight, Sunday through Thursday; and 11 a.m. until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
