‘Uncle Vanya’ at Space 55: March 14 – 30

Director Charlie Steak adapted this Russian classic, written by Anton Chekhov, to offer his audience the opportunity to take a closer look at the play’s catalyst, Elena, the professor’s young wife. In this version of “Uncle Vanya,” the old professor and his second wife, Elena, leave the city. They move to the rural estate that is home to Sonia, the professor’s daughter, and Vanya, Sonia’s uncle. Other characters at the estate include Telegin and Marina, Sonia’s nanny. Love is fought for and lost as friends and family find themselves trapped within Elena’s web of beauty mixed with deception.

The elusive Elena is played by Shawna Franks who is the theater director and founder of Space 55. According to Space55.org’s education page, Franks went to acting school at DePaul University and pursued an acting career in Chicago.

‘Monty Python’s Spamalot’ at Comerica Theatre: April 4 – 5

Showing in Phoenix for two nights only, Monty Python’s “Spamalot” beckons you to hear the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table— with a Monty Python spin. Experience musical merriment with “men in tights,” blood-thirsty rabbits and dancing divas. Get swept away by this touring musical sensation.
