Sustainable Lifestyle: Self-Talk

Tracey Martin is a Sustainable Lifestyle Leader and author and has been a certified Transformational Life Coach as well as health, life and wellness advisor for more than 25 years. Tracey’s mission is simple, to protect our natural resources, planet, and our most precious resource: humankind. She is sharing her knowledge with us in this weekly column and this week Tracey shares with us how we talk to ourselves affects our lives.

The most important voice you can listen to in your life is your own. Your “self talk” can propel you forward or hold you back.

We all have that voice in our head that seems to feed into our doubts, fears and thoughts of lack. Learning to retrain or reframe your language is a skill that can be developed with practice, focus and consistency.

Here are 6 questions to ask yourself to help clear things up:

  1. What energizes me?
  2. What is my “why” for getting out of bed each day?
  3. What is my ideal job/career?
  4. What comes naturally to me that someone else may struggle with?
  5. Where do you feel most in my “element” or my “happy place”?
  6. What are people consistently asking me to do because I am “so good at it?”

There are times when we will naturally have doubt. This feeling often comes up when we “day dream” about a job or career that we truly want to be doing but just can’t seem to get out ahead of it. When we see others doing it so effortlessly we tend to let the negative self talk creep in — “they are so good at it, I could never be that good,” “They have been doing it so long, there is no way I can start now,” “I went to school for ______ so I better stick to that”. Does any of this sound familiar? The very thing that we think we can’t possibly do is usually the very thing we must do. This is how that “gift or talent” shows up. That strength that you possess that the world needs.

I encourage you to sit with the questions and answer them authentically. If you have any questions on how to move in the right direction, feel free to send us an email.

Sustainably Yours,
Tracey xo
