Hilton Phoenix Resort at The Peak, a fixture in Arizona for over 50 years, is venturing into an exciting new chapter under new ownership with bold plans for the future. The renowned Phoenix resort will undergo a carefully planned two-and-a-half-year renovation as its new owners modernize and enhance the historic property.
Phoenix-based Pivotal Group has acquired Hilton Phoenix Resort at the Peak in a $100-million deal from New York’s Fortress Investment Group. The investment firm is renowned for its work on destinations like The Ritz-Carlton in Phoenix, St. Regis Hotel and Century Plaza in California, and Red Mountain Spa in Utah. The acquisition includes a comprehensive repositioning and renovation aimed at elevating the 20-acre Phoenix property to 4 or 4.5-star status.
“Our goal is to not only restore but to enhance this landmark property. It is still a fine facility, but with some comprehensive and carefully executed renovations and upgrades it can far exceed what came before,” says Pivotal Group Vice President of Real Estate and Principal Julia Najafi, in a press release.
Originally built in 1977, Hilton Phoenix Resort at The Peak rests in one of the Valley’s prime locations, just minutes from Sky Harbor Airport, State Route 51, and Phoenix’s premier destinations like Biltmore shopping, downtown, and Scottsdale’s luxury retail. While conveniently close to urban amenities, the resort also offers access to the rugged beauty of the Sonoran Desert, with hiking trails and views of Piestewa Peak just steps away.
“We are thrilled that this iconic hotel is now in the hands of a respected Phoenix-area family. The Najafis have a strong track record of contributing meaningfully to our community and have committed to doing so once again. I cannot wait to see how they transform one of the most beautiful properties in our city,” says Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, in a press release.
The Phoenix resort has played a significant role in the city’s hospitality history, welcoming guests for decades to Arizona’s stunning desert landscapes, cultural traditions, and luxury lifestyle. The space is also home to local institutions, including Hole In The Wall restaurant, a former dude ranch in the 1940s, and the nearby Aunt Chilada’s, a restaurant dating back to the 1890s. Even President Barack Obama stayed at the resort during a visit in 2015.
Pivotal Group plans to honor this legacy. Upgrades during the renovation process will include a full renovation of the more than 430 suite-style rooms, the construction of a new adult pool, the creation of an elevated spa and fitness center, and new dining experiences. Additionally, the project will create new outdoor gathering spaces and event venues while upgrading the entire property. Despite these extensive upgrades, the resort will remain open throughout the process, allowing guests to continue enjoying the facility.
