Visit Prescott

One of the things we love so much about Arizona is all of the fabulous places you can visit without leaving the state. Prescott is just a 2 hour drive north of Phoenix, making it the perfect weekend getaway.

Rich in history, Prescott is known for its world famous Whiskey Row and historical landmarks. At an elevation of 5,200′ feet, Prescott offers cooler temps than the valley and four seasons.

For our weekend in Prescott, we stayed at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott and we highly recommend this hotel for your stay. We were able to walk to everything in town, we didn’t get in our car once the whole weekend. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful and they offer free breakfast every morning in the lobby as well as coffee all day. Another bonus is they are dog-friendly! You can book your stay online at

We started our stay in Prescott with dinner at The Palace Restaurant and Saloon, which has been named one of the top 10 historic bars in America. Originally built in 1877, stepping into The Palace is like stepping back in time. It once boasted patrons such as Wyatt and Virgil Earp, Doc Holliday and Big Nose Kate. They offer a dog-friendly patio and an all-American style menu, serving lunch and dinner 7 days a week. The service is top notch, with the staff dressed the part to make you feel like you are in dining in the Old West. This is a great place to go for a taste of Prescott history. You might even encounter a real cowboy while you’re there.

If you enjoy farm fresh food and fantastic service, FARM Provisions should be a stop on your list as well. This is a new restaurant in Prescott that opened in May 2018 by Husband and wife team Ryan and Brittany Peters. The menu is simple, but elevated and the decor reflects that same sentiment. We really enjoyed everything about FARM Provisions, especially the fact they utilize local farmers, ranchers, and other AZ purveyors freshest seasonal products available.

Our favorite restaurant in Prescott is The Barley Hound. Opened in 2015 by Skyler Reeves, there are so many things to love about this locally owned gastropub. There is a large dog friendly patio and an outdoor bar outside behind the restaurant that is ideal for summer day drinking. You can enjoy Arizona beers and craft cocktails, and the food menu is a mix of familiar and adventurous items – all delicious! We highly recommend trying the Scotch Egg and Duck Fat Fries as well as the burgers, which are ground daily.

Things to Do

In addition to great dining and nightlife, there are lots of other things to do in Prescott. There are always activities happening on the weekends, including a Farmers Market, Arts & Crafts shows and more. If you like antiques, you will love strolling through the many shops in downtown Prescott. Additionally, Prescott is home to three of Arizona’s most prized museums: Sharlot Hall Museum, The Phippen Museum of Western Art, and the Smoki Museum. Each one explores western culture and heritage in a unique way that both entertains and educates. You can also enjoy the outdoors with more than 450 miles of trails for hiking and biking. If you bring your four-legged friend(s) to Prescott, you must stop by the Willow Creek Dog Park sponsored by Beneful. The “Dream Dog Park” features fire hose shaped tunnels, water features, a covered lounge area with tables for dog owners to enjoy and more.
