2022 Home Design Trends

Color and Pattern

Over the last decade or so, we have seen the design world gravitate toward an all-neutral color palette for interior spaces from wall colors to furniture and decor selections. To be more specific, the color gray made a significant appearance throughout homes including flooring, kitchen cabinets and wall paint. Although, it seems after a little bit over 10 years of this design trend, everything is shifting toward warmer color palettes and lively tones in both residential and commercial spaces. In the last few years, I’ve seen the color white make a strong comeback on walls throughout the interiors of homes and public buildings; there’s something about the light and clean feeling that a crisp white wall provides—especially in spaces that lack natural light which is making everyone lean into this trend even more.

Now, interior design is not necessarily interior design without added texture for a little dimension and color for a big pop! Being intentional about the way we design spaces that feature sleek white walls is key; otherwise, it may very well be confused for a builder-grade white wall and nobody likes that. People crave adventure and we normally seek adventure outside our homes even though the majority of us continue to spend most of our time indoors. It is now the time to bring in wild prints and colors into interior spaces that we live in, work in and play in to make that our everyday adventure.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen designers introduce pops of prints and patterns combining together to create a whole experience for the eyes. Homeowners are getting more creative with personal style and taste so that we find inspiration or weirdly love because it just looks right! Colors that stimulate the mind and make us feel good will break through during big moments like accent walls, whether it is through paint, wallpaper or wall tile. Furniture will be available in even more fabric and color options to allow people to introduce boldness in their spaces in unconventional ways. Color is expressive; it can tell a story and has the power to influence the way we feel which is why it’s no surprise now more than ever people are beginning to introduce lots of it into their homes again.
