25th Annual Memorial Day Celebration

Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery in Mesa hosts its 25th Annual Memorial Day Celebration on Monday, May 26, at 9 a.m. This year’s event promises a deeply patriotic and unifying experience for the entire community.
With the Josh Roy Band returning to perform stirring patriotic music, and the ceremony hosted by VFW Post 7968, attendees will witness a morning rich in remembrance and reverence. The program will feature powerful messages from Mrs. LTC Dana Allmond and Mr. Mike Granase, as well as remarks from local leaders Mayor Chip Wilson and Supervisor Jeff Serdy of Apache Junction. The Mounted Rangers will open the ceremony on horseback in a rare and moving visual tribute, joined by the Skyline ROTC and the Apache Junction High School Honor Guard, alongside Sir Knight Reverend Robert King Sr., who will offer a spiritual reflection.
A ceremonial laying of wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will follow, presented by a broad coalition of veterans’ organizations including American Legion Post 27, VFW Posts 7968 and 9399, and dozens of community partners, each honoring the fallen in solemn unity. As the names, branches, and sacrifices are remembered, the Legion Riders from Post 27 will continue their cherished tradition of placing American flags on the graves of every veteran resting at Mountain View—a breathtaking sight that drives home the scale of sacrifice made by our local heroes.
Following the ceremony, guests are invited to visit Apache Junction’s VFW and American Legion Posts for continued remembrance and camaraderie. Complimentary doughnuts, coffee, American flag pins, poppies, flowers, fans, and water will be available throughout the morning to all attendees as a gesture of gratitude and hospitality.
