Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona’s “Big for a Day”

Did you know there are approximately 160 male youths waiting for a mentor match across the Valley? To help bring light to this and hopefully attract more male volunteers, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ), in partnership with Cox Media and State Forty Eight Foundation, is hosting a “Big for a Day” spring training event at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale on March 18.

Each year BBBSAZ serves about 1,600 youth. The organization is known for creating mentorship matches between adult volunteers (“Bigs”) and children (“Littles”), ages 6 to 18. However, due to a lack of male volunteers, the organization has struggled to find a match for all of the Littles interested in their mentorship program.

Eligible male candidates are invited to attend the event to meet some of the kiddos waiting for a match. Participants will be paired with a Little for the day and activities will include minute-to-win-it games, a hosted lunch and access to the Pepsi Patio to watch an Arizona Diamondbacks spring training game. The hope is that some of these men will see how rewarding and fun it is to be mentor and will want to commit to the program for a longer stint.

This event is open to male candidates only and eligible volunteers must be at least 18-years-old, have transportation, and live in the Phoenix area.
