Hometown: Flathead Valley, Montana
First job: my first job was picking raspberries on a berry farm in Montana but my first “real” job was when I was 14, I started working as a busser at a haunted Italian food restaurant. Everyone, including myself had personal ghost encounters. I had to wash the napkins in the basement and when I was in the basement, a heavy metal dungeon-esk door slammed on me and I ran upstairs and came back down to laundry soap poured all over the floor. In multiple spots. You would have to pick it up and poor it in circles. I then ran to go buy more laundry soap and the same thing occurred. Needless to say. I didn’t stick around for more experiences.
Favorite AZ restaurant: Arizona is such a goldmine for restaurants and I live for being a foodie, so I cannot pick only one. Some of the spots I frequent most: Virtú, Chelsea’s Kitchen, LGO, The Mission, and Hillside Spot Cafe.
Person who has impacted your life the most: My parents. They have always supported my dream. They have given me trust, which is one of the most important things to me. I graduated college in 2010 and had a career in morning radio before leaving to pursue music full time. It kind of seemed crazy to leave a perfectly awesome career to start working for myself, starting from the bottom at a completely different schedule/lifestyle. I went from morning bird working, for the man, to night owl, working for myself taking any gig I could get, not to mention a less consistent pay and a constant hustle. My passion and love for music fuels me and it feels rewarding to see hard work pay off. I’m learning to love the journey.
Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: Following my dream. It took major guts. It’s the best, the only, and the hardest decision I have made, But– I am no longer a prisoner to myself for not following my passion.
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: There have been a few road blocks, but I think the biggest thing is tuning out the noise and staying true to me. I still don’t understand the kind of people that go out of their way to say something hurtful or negative, but I’ve learned to not give them the time of day and to smile through it.
Someone who inspires you: I could tell you someone famous, but the truth is, every musician out there doing it inspires me on some level. I have a ton of respect for anyone gigging night after night, making sacrifices, going through growing pains, writing songs, and putting their whole heart into it… I bow to every single one of you.
Favorite quote: I love all Eckart Tolle quotes. “Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it.”
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Pursue the 10,000 hour theory and tune out the noise.
What makes someone fabulous: I think what makes someone fabulous is when they have so much self love, they have no room to judge others. They have substance, and are living an honest lifestyle on the inside and the outside. Being true to oneself.
