Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
First job: Growing up in Indiana, or the land of corn, my first job was corn detasseling. I started when I was just 14 years old and worked that job every summer until I was 18. It was very labor intensive work but is also how I purchased my first car and learned a killer work ethic.
Favorite AZ restaurant: Passage to India in Tempe. They have the BEST vegetable korma. Everything else is good too, but if you want some serious comfort food go with the veg korma!
Person who has impacted your life the most: My late Grandma made the biggest impact on my life and business. She’s the person in my life that made me feel like being curious about spirituality was OK, in fact, she encouraged it! Her openness about all things mystical and woo-woo has shaped me into the woman I am and drives my passion every day to make spirituality more accessible through my business.
Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: Stepping into the role of leader in my business. When I started my business I was perfectly happy working at home as a solopreneur. When I started to bring on other team members, it became clear that I had to become more than a business owner and needed to become a leader. It was hard, and still is sometimes, I still have to give myself lots of pep talks on some days! Now I’m able to lead my business in a way that can make more of a difference for myself, my vision for Zenned Out, and my team.
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Oh my, so many to choose from, haha! There are so many unknowns and fears involved with running a business. I’ve been doing this for 6 years now and for most of the time the money has always just rolled in. This year brought some new challenges and I had to make a decision to scale the business down or push forward full steam ahead with a new plan not knowing how it would turn out. Making that decision is still an obstacle on some days, but I know I made the right choice.
Someone who inspires you: The creator of B-School, Marie Forleo. I joined B-School when my business was still a baby and I believe it’s what has enabled my business to continue to grow. Marie is so true to herself, has mad integrity, treats her employees like royalty, and she started her business from nothing. Her authenticity inspires me regularly to keep pushing forward.
Favorite quote: “Comparison is the thief of joy.”
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Start today, right now. Seriously, go home and do the thing you’ve been putting off to propel your goals forward. It doesn’t have to be perfect, you will learn along the way.
What makes someone fabulous: When they do the soul searching to find what makes them happy and then they go and do that thing, 100%. Those kinds of people radiate fabulousness!
