Each week we will be highlighting one of the fabulous emerging designers from Phoenix Fashion Week 2018. This week, meet Laurie McMordie & CJ Hersch, the Owners of Activ Intimates, a lingerie brand that activates sensuality in the passionate woman.
Hometown: Austin, Texas
First fashion job: Activ Intimates is our first fashion job! Our previous careers were in finance (Laurie) and human resources (CJ). We jumped into the fashion world without a clue. But we’re finding that our business experience is invaluable.
When did you know you had a passion for fashion: Our passion was ignited when we discovered that something was missing in the market. Laurie was looking for sexy lingerie for a special date and ended up completely disillusioned. The best she could find was lingerie that the sales girl had sold to her mother. So she went home and designed the Playlette – and Activ Intimates was born.
Person who has impacted your life the most: Our mother. She was always positive and inspirational. From the time we were very young, she encouraged us to be independent and reach for the stars.
Your biggest fashion accomplishment in your eyes: Our biggest accomplishment was bringing the Playlette to reality. From a rough sketch that day after the dressing room experience through many iterations to production, we created lingerie that will make women feel confident and activate erotic energy.
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Being new to the fashion industry. We learned the ropes the hard way through mistakes and lots of trial and error. We’ve also met some incredible people who have given us much inspiration and help along this journey.
A designer who inspires you: We are inspired by Sarah Shotton (Agent Provocateur), because she’s fearless, true to her aesthetic and designs lingerie that is over-the-top sexy.

Advice to someone pursuing a career in fashion as a designer: Learn to edit yourself and collaborate.
