Hometown:  Phoenix Arizona

First job: Lifeguard and Swim instructor. I learned to develop a curriculum and that I was good at teaching… and I have always liked to be outdoors.

Favorite AZ restaurant: I love going to Tarbell’s to watch the Oscars with a good friend and long-time student.

Person who has impacted your life the most: I can’t put that all on one person. Different people have helped in so many ways. Fellow artists who will point out simple painting flaws you missed. Parents and friends for their support and who would come to shows. Artists who have passed and the inspiration they give me to paint better.

Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: My art being on the cover of Arizona highways. It’s an iconic magazine that represents Arizona past and present. It’s amazing to be part of that.

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: Self-doubt is my biggest obstacle and I have yet to overcome it.  Many artists grapple with that during their careers.

Someone who inspires you: My parents have made an impression on my life. They have an excellent work ethic.  They have skills that I can learn from. They showed me to never burn bridges, to work hard, and keep your dreams.

Favorite quote: “You don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” – Bob Ross

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: 1) Only the committed will succeed.  2) Remember the business side of art.  3) Never quit. It’s going to take time.  Don’t fall for the illusion of the over-night success.  It’s rare.  You are going to have to work hard before you get there.  See comment on self-doubt.

What you think makes someone fabulous: Someone who is unique and marches to the beat of their own drum. That person might dress expressively and be creative in their activities. I am always fascinated by a person like that.
