MollyKate Cline

Hometown: Columbus, Ohio

What is unique about your brand: All of our pieces are 100% biodegradable and made out of natural materials.

What is your brand’s style: Girly, Floral, and Ethereal

What footprint/legacy will your brand leave the world with: We believe in protecting the planet that God created for us, so we will never use chemically made fabrics that harm our ecosystems.

First fashion job: Does sewing outfits for our 5th grade class pet count?!

When did you know you had a passion for fashion: Pretty much ever since I was in elementary school, I’ve always wanted to be a designer and my career path has never changed. I’m one of those lucky ones who’s always known.

Person who has impacted your FASHION life the most: Honestly, I’ve gone through phases where my designs would mimic the people I surrounded myself with. Meaning, when I dated a guy who was ‘edgy’, my designs became ‘edgy’. Or when my friends would really like a certain silhouette, I would create a lot of that. But within the past 2 years I’ve really grown into myself and have defined my own brand, style and aesthetic. Maybe the person who impacts my fashion life the most now is me!

Your biggest fashion accomplishment (SO FAR) in your eyes: I created a 6 piece couture fashion line depicting the story of the Bible, and that has been by far my most favorite collection I’ve ever made. I hope to do more work in this realm, because it’s where I’ve found I had the most impact on people.

The biggest FASHION obstacle you have overcome: Learning that people will copy you, and that’s okay. I’ve learned just to take it as a compliment, and move along. If you spend time worrying about them, that’s less time you have to create something new and even better. It pushes you harder that’s for sure.

A designer who inspires you: Elie Saab, his attention to detail is impeccable and I dream to create gowns like his one day!

Favorite quote: Talent is Ageless

Advice to someone pursuing a career in fashion as a designer: Start now, and really spend time defining your target customer, brand style, color palettes, ect before you launch. Get a feel for what the market wants, do your research, and then go big. Now’s the time!

How has the Phoenix Fashion Week #DesignerBootcamp impacted your brand? This bootcamp has completely opened my eyes to the world of wholesale, and just selling clothes in general that I didn’t realize I needed to know. As a fashion design student, we’re so caught up in our designs and creativity, we don’t often focus on or even know how to focus on the business side of everything. That’s where bootcamp has come in to help… bootcamp paired with fashion design college… couldn’t ask for anything more!

What can fans expect to see from your collection in October: The same girly, ethereal vibe I always go for but this time slightly elevated… and definitely the color pink!
