First Job: Growing up in Quincy, Mass., a suburb of Boston, I got my first job at age 14 at Radio Shack Computer Center.  Yup total nerd job.  I would ride the train after high school and change into a dress shirt to then sell computers, software and cell phones.  I was 14 years old and had no idea how to sell.   I actually had to get working papers from high school to have permission to work.  I was the youngest employee of Tandy Corp who owned Radio Shack and became the #1 salesperson my first summer working full-time.  Looking back, I feel it was because I was most relatable to the parents that were buying computers for their kids.  They did have great sales training which taught me to make sure they had all the extra items, like the printer, floppy discs, mouse and mouse pad, paper, etc.

Person who has impacted your life the most: Have you ever met someone that taught you a lesson that at the time seemed so small yet over time the ripple effect was far greater than you ever could’ve imagined.  Maybe a parent, uncle, teacher, a friend or a boss?   Back in 2005 I had the opportunity to meet JB Metzger who at the time was a Mortgage Master.  He was closing a ridiculous amount of loans, helping a lot of people purchase and refinance, especially for someone working by himself.  He had this way about him in regard to figuring out the best way to help someone and also deliver the information.  HE helped people that most would’ve ignored, and he built a repeat and referral business from the ground up.  I was blessed to work by his side for 3 years until he passed away suddenly in an ATV accident.  To this day much of my success is based of the teaching of JB and all the hours that we spent together.

Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: My biggest accomplishment thus far is my family.  There’s no book on how to be a great father, husband, or friend all while building your business and brand.  I’ve been married for 16 years now and have 2 kids.  It takes constant focus on that aspect of my life and a high level of focus and energy.  There was a time when my wife came to me and said she felt like a single mom because I was putting in so many hours and literally giving her the leftovers when I got home.  So, the little time I was spending at home I really wasn’t all there.  It wasn’t fair to her or the kids and I’m glad she said something because I would’ve just kept going. We all know where that would’ve ended.  Fortunately, I have an amazing wife that gives we that kind of feedback and doesn’t hold it in and build resentment.  Resentment just builds and eventually explodes. Now I have a tight schedule and make sure I’m home and I’m fully engaged the second I get home.  Do I slip from time to time, yes absolutely, but I get back on track immediately.   Family and memories are so important and for me I need to show that they are with words and more importantly the daily actions.

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: My biggest obstacle is myself and succumbing to distractions.  They’re all around us.  Phone calls, text messages, social media, drama, and the list goes on for everyone. I’ve been diligently working on being “indistractable.”  Every day working on blocking out the distractions and making better choices in the moment.

Someone who inspires you: The person right now that inspires me the most is Grant Cardone.  I’ve been studying him for several years and to watch someone build several companies while keeping family focused.  Traveling the world and impacting the masses with how to be successful, manage their finances and stay focused on all areas of there lives.  His 10X movement is not about 10X’ing your business, it’s about how to have it all in all areas.  Your family, friends, love life, finances, business and spirituality.  Grant is extremely transparent and is on a mission to help as many people as possible through educating them on the tools to achieve success in each of those 7 areas.

Favorite quote: “To be a great leader, you must be a great student.”

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: The advice I would give anyone pursuing a career in anything would be to have great mentors.  Rather than take 10-15 years to figure out on your own how to do something, you can take mentor under someone who has already done it and better yet already doing it.  Study these people and you will become better.  I was blessed to spend 3 years with JB.  After he passed, I found a coaching company for the mortgage industry called The Core Training.  I’ve been a student since 2009 and started coaching for them in 2014.  I also study other greats like Grant Cardone to further help with the 7 areas mentioned earlier and will continue to be a great student in order to be a leader.

What you think makes someone fabulous: As I think about what encompasses someone who is Fabulous I think about the words and actions of my kids, Kai and Tatum.  At their core they are kind, honest and helpful.  That’s fabulous
