Favorite ways to spend your free time in AZ: Arizona is the best state for the great outdoors. I spend my free time doing anything from kayaking the Salt River and camping on the Rim, to hunting the southwest, snowboarding in Flagstaff, and riding dirt bikes at Four Peaks.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Once I knew my passion for acupuncture and Chinese medicine, nothing was stopping me from pursuing this career. My biggest accomplishment was pursuing two master’s degrees and my doctorates in two years.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: I don’t believe in obstacles; nothing can hinder you unless you allow it to.

Someone who inspires you and why: My grandmother is the one and only person who inspires me. Her drive and self-discipline inspires me to be more than what we think our limits are.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: My advice for the acupuncture profession is to be open to all modalities of acupuncture so that you can treat the complexity of the human body on all levels.

Favorite quote: “Extreme ownership. Leaders must own everything in their world. There is no one else to blame.” –Jocko Willink

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I am ambidextrous, which is very convenient for needling my patients!

What makes someone fabulous: A fabulous person is someone that goes outside of themselves to better the world with no one agenda. Those people who dedicate their lives to helping others, those are fabulous people.

  1. The BEST Acupuncturist in the Valley!

  2. I just ADORE her! She’s got the best, most comforting bedside manner when it comes to treating my many ailments. I go twice a week – Tuesdays & Thursdays and she knows me well enough to know what I need. I literally walked into the clinic yesterday afternoon with the beginnings of a migraine and within 5 minutes of the insertion of the needles, the headache started to ease. A short nap later, the headache was gone, I was feeling quite rested and ready to take on the rest of my evening.

I’m so pleased with Modern Acupuncture and Dr. Avery specifically that I cannot see myself ever not going. Definitely one of the best decisions I’ve ever made for myself and I look at it as preventive medicine that actually WORKS wonders. I tell EVERYONE about my Poke Therapy.
