Fab Interior Designer: Lauren Lerner of Living with Lolo
How did you get into interior design? After a career in a completely different industry, I decided to follow my passion and trust my gut and pursue interior design. I don’t have formal training and have learned all that I know by working in the field and with clients.
How has the pandemic affected your industry? We are busier than ever! As people began to spend more time in their homes, they wanted to update and invest in their spaces. Trips getting canceled meant that they could allocate more of their budgets to their homes. The furniture supply chain has been hit hard by COVID, so while we can still get items and design unique spaces, it is taking a lot longer.
What is your best advice for achieving timeless interior design? Choose pieces that you LOVE! If you don’t love it, get rid of it, and don’t rush to design your whole house at once if it’s going to be a financial stretch.
Most memorable design project? One of my most memorable design projects was a project that we were able to complete for a client out of state and almost completely virtually with the same great results.
Tip for a homeowner about to embark on a home design project? Start early! Find a designer whose style you love and reach out early as we book up months in advance.
Favorite Arizona-based retailers or home décor brands? We love local textile creator Caroline Cecil. We also attend the market twice a year to find all the latest trade vendors and so that we can shop from them and confidently sell them to our clients even though they don’t have a local presence.
