Jane Poston, vice president and owner, J2 Media

How did your love story begin? Jason: We were both working as freelancers. I was a camera operator, and she was a producer doing work for a Phoenix agency when I mentioned to the station director that I would like to work with her on all her projects. I said, “Hey, can you arrange that for me?” Twenty-two years later, we are still working together!

Favorite thing about one another: Jason: There are many favorite things about her but to find someone who you can always talk about life, work, family and fun 24 hours a day with and still have a smile on your face – that’s what life is about! Jane: Jason is always, always there for me, and anyone else who needs him. If he cares about you—he’s all in. There aren’t many people in this world you can always count on like that no matter what—he’s one of them.

Favorite date night: Jason: When we schedule a date night, generally, I try to make it as special as the first time we go out. I enjoy dining at nice places where I can spoil her. Jane: As much as I love to get dressed up and go out, my favorite date night is actually when we roll with wherever the day takes us. Lately, that’s been to the golf course with friends, where we forget about the day-to-day details and just enjoy each other’s company. Best of all, those days usually end up poolside with an impromptu dinner. I absolutely love spending a Saturday this way.

Favorite tradition you have as a couple: Jane: New Year’s Eve always includes a huge festival of crab legs. It started when we were dating and on a trip up north. We stayed in a tiny little cabin on New Year’s Eve, and Jason made a ton of crab legs for the two of us when a documentary he worked on came on television. I was impressed with the cooking and the TV credit! We’ve kept up the tradition with our friends, our kids and sometimes their friends throughout the years, and the best part is that we’ve
dropped any pretense of the meal, including healthy things like salad or sides. It’s just an enormous bucket of crab legs and a personal bowl of butter.

What does your happily ever after look like? Jason: Being able to do what we want almost every day – we are very close to that. I believe we both enjoy our job. I know I wouldn’t have done anything different. That being said, stepping away from some of the day-to-day work would be great, but still doing some of the production would be a goal. I think our future will be playing golf mixed with a little work. Jane: We’ve always joked that there’s no need to ever retire because happily ever after looks a lot like our current life together. As the years go on, we’d like to travel more and take a few long vacations that don’t involve checking email on the daily.
