Dad to: Luke, 10, and Ty, 8.
Hometown: Scottsdale
Favorite ways to spend family time in AZ: The unexpected moments are the best where we are all hanging together having dinner, swimming or hanging out in the front yard playing. I love it when we get up north and get in a cabin where we can hang out, relax and fish. The days that I can get everyone to church are some of my best days as well.
Your most rewarding fatherhood moment: There are many of these, but the one that currently stands out is watching our boys play in their School of Rock band together where Luke was playing the guitar and Ty was on the drums. Super proud moment for us.
Biggest challenge as a dad: Realizing that my wants no longer matter as much, and that my new world is focused on catering to my baby’s needs.
A father who inspires you and why: My dad has been an inspiration for me. He is my role model who taught me to always work hard, do the right thing, and to have discipline. I believe discipline is lacking and it is one of the most valuable traits that we need to be teaching our children. Seeing my dad work as hard as he did, and yet was always making sure he was able to help coach me and guide me is something I try to emulate. He was tough on us doing our chores and earning money rather than just caving in and giving us things.
Best piece of advice for a new dad: To make sure that you get time with your wife. It is natural for the baby to be the center of your time; however, your bond with your wife is what is most important. I realized that in order to keep everyone strong and happy, you need to find time to continue to focus on your relationship.
Your biggest hope for your children: For Luke to get into the NBA and for Ty to get into the NFL. That is what they want to be right now. I do write this jokingly. I just want them to grow up being men that influence others to do good and be good husbands and dads. To keep their faith and give their best effort in whatever they end up doing.
How are you celebrating Father’s Day? I will most likely just be hanging out with the family swimming at the house and barbecuing. Hopefully, my dad will be able to come by along with my father-in-law to join in the celebrations.
