Fab Interior Designer: Laura Kehoe of Laura Kehoe Design

How did you get into interior design? Interior design was always something I loved as a child. I went to design school in High Point, NC, in the heart of the furniture world and got my start designing showrooms for the international furniture market during college. It is hard to believe that was over 20 years ago – time flies when you’re having fun!

How has the pandemic affected your industry? We have been very fortunate that the pandemic has been beneficial in high-end home design. It has placed a higher importance on the spaces we spend time in and created a demand for more custom lifestyle spaces. We are seeing product delays and inflation just like other industries.

What is your best advice for achieving timeless interior design? We stick to designs that have shown the test of time and anything that is trending we typically use in areas that are easier to change out after a few years, such as decorative lighting, hardware, furnishings.

Most memorable design project? An ocean-front home in Del Mar, CA. It was the first large project that helped put the firm on the map, and the clients are dear friends. We have now worked on three homes with them.

Tip for a homeowner about to embark on a home design project? Buckle up for a fun and wild ride! There are always some surprises especially with remodels, so it’s best to plan for both more time than anticipated and more budget than originally needed. This way when unexpected things pop up, it is less stressful.

Favorite Arizona-based retailers or home décor brands? That’s hard and depends on the project. Tierra Del Lagarto is wonderful for unique global finds, Facings of America for tile and Hinkley’s lighting to see some fun lighting inspiration!
