Fab Mom: Leah Huss

Leah Huss is the co-founder of Huss Brewing Co., which opened in 2013 (she laid the plans for the business when she was expecting her daughter) and is now the third-largest brewery in Arizona. There are currently locations in Tempe and Uptown Phoenix, with a third on the way at Phoenix Convention Center.

Mom of: Lola Belle, 10

Hometown: Springfield, IL

Favorite ways to spend family time in AZ: Our favorite way to spend family time is traveling up north to Sedona. It’s always been a happy place for us.

Your most rewarding motherhood moment: It’s hard for me to just choose one moment in time. I am in awe of her very often. She is so kind to others. She is an incredible inspirational writer and is the greatest Girl Boss in training.

Biggest challenge as a mom: My biggest challenge as a mom has always been work/mom balance. When I was pregnant with Lola, I was already running a business. I was the managing partner for Papago Brewing Co. We created Huss Brewing when we found out we were having her. I ran both Papago and Huss for a year and a half when she was very little. Free time and fun time had to take a backseat very often until I transitioned to Huss full time in 2015. Mom guilt is real!

A mother who inspires you and why: JoAnna Gaines is a huge inspiration to me. Not only is she wildly talented, she appears to know how to pull back enough to always have her family as top priority. I see how she is able to surround her kids with nature and a simple life. One small thing we do every night is sit down to dinner together as a family. No technology or distractions. I think it is important at the end of the day so you can all come back together. It is an easy way to check in!

Best piece of advice for a new mom: The best piece of advice I can pass on to a new mom is to always make sure you take care of yourself. There’s a difference between being selfish and self care. If you don’t take care of yourself, you cannot take care of your family in the way that they need to be taken care of.

Your biggest hope for your children: I hope that she is fiercely independent and self-confident. I want her not to worry about what anyone else thinks and just to always find happiness.

How are you celebrating Mother’s Day: Every year we celebrate the same way. I ask for clean sheets, a clean house and a nap!
