Each week we will be highlighting one of the fabulous emerging designers from Phoenix Fashion Week 2017. This week, meet fashion designer Dorota Zglobicka, the owner and designer of Theo Doro, creating whimsical clothing for the modern woman.
Hometown: Tucson/Vail, AZ
First fashion job: After my first fashion show in Poland (Where I am from), I sold my pieces, but I also got my first professional custom orders, like wedding dress. I was excited and terrified at the same time. In general, I propose alternative approach to the big day, therefore I came up with this pastel blue gown with dust pink jacket, and she loved it. I kind of knew that she will, but I remember my hurt stopped waiting for her reaction to the drawings of the design when she first saw it. I learn that following your vision is what you should do, of course with honoring the client’s needs.
When did you know you had a passion for fashion: They say, “the Necessity is the Mother of Invention”. I couldn’t find clothes I liked in the stores, everything looked pretty much the same, sometimes badly made but most of all: boring. I found the gap in “uniqueness”. I’ve always been into art and has been pursuant of mine since I was a kid. To this day I use this passion as a career and feel very fortunate I am able to do so. I’ve been creating art and I’ve been loving fashion therefore I created: Theo Doro – The Art of Fashion.” For the woman, who pays attention to detail, likes her outfits to be unique, elegant and playful at the same time and definitely not boring.
Person who has impacted your life the most: My grandfather who was a painter. I remember when he was watching me while my parents were at work, we were painting together (he gave me my first box of oil paints when I was 6 or 7 years old) I was showing him very step of my work and at one point he said “The Artists never show to the world their work until it is finished” Till this day I don’t know, if he just tried to get rid of me because I was annoying? or this is something he really believed. But this sentence stuck with me.
Your biggest fashion accomplishment in your eyes: To be chosen as TOP 15 for Phoenix Fashion Week, becose this organisation is focust on branding designers, they are traveling around the word in search of great designers and they are choosing as finalist the best ones. I am among the best! I like it.
The biggest obstacle you have overcome: When there is passion for something there is no obstacle, at least not ate the beginning of the road. If there will be something on the way I am sure I will find a way to overcome it. For this you need a good team players for sure.
A designer who inspires you: Coco Channel – game changer!
Favorite quote: “Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world”
Advice to someone pursuing a career in fashion as a designer: Follow your instinct, find the whole in the market, find your target, and most importantly sign up for Phoenix Fashion Week Designer Bootcamp! Period.
Favorite piece you have ever designed: Many-layer skirt and blouse. The silhouette is so figure flattering, and you can wear it in to ways. Every layer of this outfit is sewn separately, creating this beautiful symphony of pastel colors with black accent like thin lace and little Swarovski black crystals.
