Hometown: Elko, Nevada

First job: My first job was a radio disc-jockey in 1977 at 16 years old in my hometown of Elko, Nevada. KELK 1240 AM “The Golden Voice of the Silver State”. I was the music disc-jockey on the night shift, known as “Boogie Shoes”.

Favorite AZ restaurant: Randy’s Restaurant on Chaparral west of Hayden. It’s simple but great, fast, consistent, with low prices and awesome old school staff and service. Local owner. Casual old time diner feel. Nostalgic. Richie, Potsie and Ralph would have hung out here, and Fonzie would have jumped a shark in the parking lot. Seriously, my family goes to Randy’s 2 or 3 times a week like clockwork. This place is special to us. Ask Randy where “The Mayor” sits! Order my favorite breakfast burrito.

Person who has impacted your life the most: And for the first time in his 43 year career…… (drum roll please…….) “The Mayor” has no answer…. You win.

Your biggest accomplishment in your eyes: This is kind of sappy but here goes. When my kids hug me and say, “Love you Dad,” I can feel inside they truly mean it. Do I lose “Guy Points” for that answer? …..and now I have to finish this interview with big teary eyes. Thanks a lot!

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: The size of my bow tie at my senior prom. That thing was like a Jackie Chan weapon. I think it doubled as a ninja throwing star. That maroon pastel tie along with my mullet immediately qualified me to serve shrimp cocktails at Durant’s.

Someone who inspires you: Little kids. They are still honest.

Favorite quote: “You can’t run with the big dogs if ya pee like a puppy.”

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: I am not really sure what I do. I wear a bunch of different hats But generally, in any business and media being included, learn how to sell. If you can sell, you can pretty much do anything.

What you think makes someone fabulous: The ability to laugh at themselves, to recognize the best qualities in others and to be resilient with confidence makes someone fabulous.
