Hometown: Chicago, IL.
First job: Like most teen girls in the 90s— babysitting.
Favorite ways to spend your free time in AZ: Outdoors! I enjoy visits to national and state parks. We’re so fortunate to be surrounded by mountains, trails, and stunning views in every direction.
Your biggest accomplishment and why: I grew up in a violent, low-income home on the West Side of Chicago. Every time I take a moment to survey where my life is today, I’m filled with both gratitude and pride. Simply being where and who I am right now is my biggest accomplishment.
The biggest obstacle you overcame: At the end of 2023, I was laid off from what I truly thought was my dream job. The role was a huge leap forward in my career, and it was at a company I had been aspiring to work for since I arrived in Arizona in 2012. The loss was crushing, and I had a really hard time picking myself up again. After giving myself time to grieve, I knew I had to continue publicly building my brand and reputation, just as I have been doing for other executives my entire career. My work paid off, landing me in my role with Digital HQ today.
Someone who inspires you and why: Growing up, I vividly remember my aunt, one of the most important people in my life, going back to school for her Master’s Degree. Until then, I had never thought about higher education, my future, or achieving my dreams. Watching her work tirelessly to build a great life and career for herself became so burned into my brain that I knew I had to follow in her footsteps.
I also had an amazing mentor at PetSmart HQ, our then-chief merchandising officer. She was so effortlessly herself in the office, so generous with her limited time, and just a brilliant corporate leader. She deeply influenced my perception of women in leadership – embodying strength and assurance at every turn – and instilled so much confidence in me.
Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Curiosity, creativity, and courage can get you almost anywhere you want to go.
Favorite quote: “I have failed over and over and over again. And that is why I succeed.” — Michael Jordan
Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I’m an avid powerlifter, and it’s become a source of meditation for me. I currently rep 225-lb. deadlifts.
What makes someone fabulous: The way you make someone feel is what makes you fabulous. We all know someone who makes us feel cared for, important, and heard. These are the people who make life just a little bit more lovely.
