Hometown: Minneapolis, Minnesota

First job: Retail at Dayton’s (age 15)

Favorite ways to spend your free time in AZ: Hiking, swimming, playing with my kids, trying new restaurants, live music, finding dive bars and traveling.

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Becoming an entrepreneur and having three kids! I never knew I could do both at the same time. I always thought owning my own business was too risky because of the need to support my family. I had a very safe, successful corporate career. It was extremely hard to walk away from the golden hand-cuffs of a corporate career.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: Quitting. Quitting my corporate career. My heart kept telling me it wasn’t the right place for me, but I continued to justify all the reasons why I should stay: 401K, healthcare, stock options, paid time off, leaving work at work (sometimes), keeping a roof over my kid’s heads and food on the table. It wasn’t until I realized what I was giving up wasn’t equal to what I was receiving in my career that I started to gain the courage to quit.

Someone who inspires you and why: My mom and Miranda Lambert. I know it’s a strange mix, but what can you do? My mom was a business owner in the 90’s and she was in a role typically dominated by males: a CFO. She was one of the first businesses that instituted 401K’s in her small business. She’s a genius and trailblazer, and she’s extremely humble. Miranda Lambert just blows me away as a songwriter and performer. I love her attitude and her passion for giving back. She has girl grit and is a true gem for not apologizing for who she is.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: Make all the friends and stay in touch. Listen, really listen to people when they talk to you. First, it’s easier to remember them and the discussion you had. Second, it makes the connection so much more meaningful when you connect again in the future! It’s always so thoughtful when a contact or friend reaches out and remembers something personal. You have know idea the impact you can have on another by just listening. The only reason I felt comfortable transitioning from a corporate career to an entrepreneurial one is the network I had to support me. Lord knows I don’t know how to do everything well, so I stay humble and ask a lot of questions to people who know a lot more than me.

Favorite quote: “Sis, that risk you are afraid to take will change your life.”

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: I danced for 15 years, won five state championships in high school and wanted to be an NFL cheerleader but never pursued it because of my own body insecurities. I grew up, had three babies and feel more confident in my own skin than I have in my life at age 37. I owe a lot of that to educating myself, changing my own views and an extremely supportive husband.

What makes someone fabulous: Confidence, kindness and authenticity. Meeting people who are genuine is truly a breath of fresh air. Combine that with confidence and that is a combination few can say no to. That’s also how we treat all of our guests at FACE FOUNDRIÉ. We want everyone to feel like they’re wrapped in a warm hug the second they walk in the door.
