First Fashion Job: Sales at JC Penny while I was attending University of Northern Colorado. I was working part time in the men’s clothing department.

When did you know you had a passion for fashion: When I was in high school, I dreamed of being a fashion designer. I grew up on a farm with 8 siblings, so you can imagine our mother made a lot of our clothes. I got my love of sewing and design from her. My three sisters and I always had the most beautiful, most original gowns at the prom and I loved the entire process. However, at that time in rural Colorado, the accepted career choices for women were teachers or nurses, so I put my fashion design dreams in the back of my mind and chose teaching. It took many years of designing bridal gowns for friends and family on nights and weekends while pursuing a corporate career before finding a way to finally pursue my fashion design dreams.

Person who impacted your life the most: My children. They push me to be more than I am.

Your biggest fashion accomplishment in your eyes: Being admitted into my first fashion show in Denver – it showed me I have something others admire.

The biggest obstacle you have overcome: My own insecurities about growing up on a farm and milking cows.

A designer who inspires you: Of course, Monique Lhullier, Vera Wang and Claire Pettibone in bridal gown designs, but Diane Von Fuerstenberg is probably my favorite. Although she came from a family of means, she’s involved in many activities to encourage and reward young designers.
