Hometown: Phoenix

First job: Hostess at Sam’s Cafe at Biltmore Fashion Park (RIP!).

Favorite ways to spend your free time in AZ: I enjoy walks with my family in our neighborhood (the Bridal Path is our go-to), hiking local trails and visiting our favorite getaway spots (Sonoita, Patagonia and Flagstaff).

Your biggest accomplishment and why: Parenting three teens and maintaining positive relationships with them through all the ups and downs that come with these years.

The biggest obstacle you overcame: In the span of a few years, I went from struggling and hating school as a young adult to figuring out what I really wanted to do. Eventually, I graduated from Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Early Childhood Education.

Someone who inspires you and why: My students! Watching them play reminds me not to take life too seriously and that you are never too old to be creative and celebrate the little things in life.

Advice to someone pursuing a career path in what you do: This is not something people get into for the money or the glamour, but there is no greater way to make a difference in the world than to work with children and their families. Learn as much as you can, listen and be present, and if you love this work, it can be such a rewarding career.

Favorite quote: “Be a lamp, or a lifeboat, or a ladder. Help someone’s soul heal. Walk out of your house like a shepherd.” ––Rumi

Something someone would be surprised to learn about you: Though I work in and have a passion for education, I did not have a great experience in school growing up. This is part of why it is so important to me to help create a safe and supportive environment for children.

What makes someone fabulous: Confidence and a willingness to show up and contribute something meaningful to the world!
