Restaurant of the Week: The Sicilian Baker

Arizona foodies know that The Sicilian Butcher is a staple of the Valley’s culinary scene, with savory Italian dishes, a sleek aesthetic, and an unparalleled reputation. Now, Joey Maggiore, co-founder and executive chef of the restaurant, has expanded the brand’s offerings through The Sicilian Baker—an Italian bakery which serves up authentic desserts and a number of other decadent goodies.

The quaint market—which currently has two locations in Phoenix and Chandler, as well as a third coming to the West Valley—features a build-your-own cannoli bar, espresso bar, gelato and freshly made pastries.

They’ve also recently implemented a new grab-and-go market, where customers can purchase market or bakery items like a premade meal, ingredients to make an Italian dish, and a dessert to-go.

The bakery offers a vibrant ambiance with white, brick walls, and red and gold accents strategically placed throughout the space. Even though it’s nestled in Phoenix, you immediately get the sense that you’re in an authentic, Italian bakery.

The team at The Sicilian Baker was incredibly accommodating, and they offered recommendations of both chef and customer favorites. We were able to indulge in their famous cannoli’s, cassatina (a traditional Sicilian dessert and a must-have for marzipan lovers), torta della nonna, and their beloved Italian flag cookie, all from the comforts of our home.

The bakery’s dessert items carried their freshness and decadent flavors with ease throughout the long weekend, offering us even more time to enjoy the rich flavors—though if we’re being honest, we ate most of our haul in the same day. Trust us, their desserts and premade meals are THAT good. The Sicilian Baker is a can’t-miss spot in the Valley, and the next time you visit, you’ll understand why.
