Downtown Phoenix’s Angel’s Trumpet Ale House is one of those spots that could rely on its beer list and prime location. Good thing for diners, after tasting the goods that come out of the from-scratch kitchen (right down to the ranch dressing!), Angel’s Trumpet Ale House is an over-achiever.
Angel’s Trumpet Ale House, from Mat and Sharry Englehorn, has long been a local favorite for grabbing a beer and a bite to eat before a game or concert in Phoenix. But its cool, casual setting and incredible beer garden-inspired patio are inviting enough for diners who choose to make their dinner the destination.
The ale house has an extensive menu of local (you’ll find the likes of Huss, Lumberyard and Goldwater on the list) and beyond draft brews, which we recommend enjoying via a sampler that served in a muffin tin. Because beer is just better with wings, the Angel’s wings are a must, served naked and perfectly crispy. We suggest requesting all of Angel’s Trumpet’s house-made sauces for some serious dunking action: hot sauce, honey-infused Moose Drool brown ale, spicy ranch and bleu cheese.
Likewise, pizza is another one of those dishes that just tastes right when paired with a cold one. The pollo adobo flatbread brings the heat, with chicken, bacon, jalapeno, mozzarella, roasted tomato sauce and a drizzle of adobo sauce and Mike’s hot honey. (The Meat Treat comes highly recommended, too.)
The aptly Big Guppy fish tacos, featuring golden, flaky Grand Canyon Brewing hefeweizen beer-battered cod, are likely the biggest tacos you have ever seen, focusing on both quality and quantity. The dish is rounded out with roasted corn relish, secret sauce, pico de gallo, avocado mash, refried beans and spicy slaw. This is definitely shareable with other seafoodies at the table.
For a lighter entree, the avocado salad is a beautiful medley of texture and color, brimming with fresh greens, grapefruit, avocado, orange Champagne vinaigrette, smoked beets, goat cheese, toasted almonds and mint.
Dessert time calls for the menu item that Angel’s Trumpet is most known for: its house-made pop-tarts. The featured flavor changes each season, but diners can always count on two sizable tarts, crowned with a shiny glaze. And for a small additional fee, a dollop a vanilla ice cream takes this sweet treat to the next lip-smacking level.
