Located in the spot that formerly housed Sandbar Gilbert, Backyard is now dishing up an exciting blend of scratch-made dishes, craft cocktails, and interactive games near SanTan Village.
Backyard Gilbert marks the restaurant’s fourth locale, including an outpost in Desert Ridge that opened earlier this year. The concept has quickly become a favorite for watching games (check out the 18-ft.-by-10-ft. LED screens that can showcase multiple events simultaneously), playing cornhole or Pop-a-Shot with the family, and enjoying energizing beats from the DJ booth. Best of all is the restaurant’s colorful, indoor/outdoor vibe, thanks to garage-style walls that open up to the spacious, grassy patio area.
On the menu, patrons can dig into elevated bar eats like burgers and handhelds, nachos, wings, salads, and pizzas. The crispy wings are especially delicious, with sauce options that range from mild to Korean BBQ to hot honey. Diners can’t go wrong with any of Backyard Gilbert’s pizzas (gluten-free cauliflower crust is available) or selection of flavorful street tacos. On the weekends, savor brunch eats like chicken and waffles, breakfast burrito, and the XL cinnamon roll.
Diners can pair their sticky ribs or Philly cheesesteaks with a sizable menu of beer, wine, seltzers, specialty cocktails (including several on tap), and creative shots (like the Cinnamon Toast Crunch with RumChata and Fireball Whisky). Purists will adore the traditional but deliciously done espresso martini while a Poolside Punch, with Bacardi chili-mango rum, triple sec, orange juice, lime, simple syrup, and pomegranate, will transport anyone to a vacay state of mind.
Backyard Gilbert is open Monday to Thursday, 3 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Brunch is served on weekends from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
