Drink Me! Tea & Treats Now Open in Tempe

In 2020, Drink Me! Tea Room emerged as a quaint beacon of inclusivity celebrated for its gluten-free, vegan options in Tempe. This year, owner Melissa Harlan opened Drink Me! Tea & Treats, an express tea bar setting adjacent to the original tea room.

Drink Me! Tea & Treats builds on the popularity of its predecessor by offering premium loose-leaf teas and an array of tea beverages designed to enchant the senses. Among its standout offerings are unique tea blends like Ginger Orange Peach and specialty drinks such as the strawberry-rose tea latte, a combination of strawberry green tea, strawberry jam, rose syrup and coconut milk. These beverages cater to a diverse range of tastes, including options sweetened with plant-based syrups like lavender and praline.

Understanding the challenges of finding allergen-friendly foods, Drink Me! Tea & Treats also extends its menu to include dairy substitutes such as oat, almond, soy and coconut milk, alongside natural sweeteners like agave and Stevia. Partnering with Brick Road Coffee, the tea bar enriches its menu by introducing cold brew coffee to its drink offerings.

The bakery selection at Drink Me! Tea & Treats is a testament to the establishment’s commitment to inclusivity, featuring a variety of gluten-free and vegan desserts like coffee cakes, chocolate chip brownies and an array of seasonal vegan macarons. In celebration of its grand opening, the tea bar is offering $3 off a dozen macarons through June 1.

“We saw a lack of representation of desserts for those with food allergies when we would go out to eat. Yes, many restaurants now have a few gluten-free and vegan side dishes and entree options on menus, but rarely through to the dessert portion of the menu. Creating a central hub for restaurants to offer fresh desserts on their menus can foster an inclusive dining experience for many customers,” says Harlan, owner of Drink Me! Tea & Treats, in a press release.

The inspiration for this expansion traces back to a family trip to London in 2019, where Harlan fell in love with the afternoon tea tradition. Fueled by this experience and her personal journey with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which necessitated a gluten-free and vegan diet, Harlan envisioned creating a space where dietary restrictions don’t limit your culinary experiences.
