From multi-faceted winemaker, Maynard James Keenan, and the team behind Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards comes the newest addition: a fresh wine bar in Cottonwood, Four 8 Wineworks.
Opened mid-November in Old Town Cottonwood, Four 8 Wineworks is a local tasting room with wines curated by Maynard James Keenan and Tim White, the team behind Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards. The duo utilizes locally-sourced fruit from Northern Arizona to create the vinos, including ingredients from their gardens and orchards.
“Four 8 Wineworks, named after the 48th state of Arizona, was created to shine a light on, and help establish, emerging small-production Arizona winegrowers,” says Keenan. “But with all of its tenants having graduated or moved on, Four 8 Wineworks has now transitioned into a standalone wine label. The wines are made by me and Tim White using Northern Arizona fruit. And since the Co-Op narrative is no longer applicable, the messaging has become far more playful and tongue in cheek. Strap in.”
Like Keenan’s other tasting rooms, including Merkin Vineyards in Old Town Scottsdale and Merkin Vineyards Tasting Room & Osteria in Jerome, the new wine bar features an intimate design, with 1,500 square feet of raw wood elements, hard metals and low lighting. A storefront can be found on-site, with a revolving supply of sundries from the Merkin Gardens & Orchards, including olives, apple butter, jam and scratch gelati and sorbetti. Each artisanal item is created with only the freshest seasonal ingredients.
The wine program features a variety of wines from Four 8 Wineworks, including a new label, Legion, in addition to the Puscifer Queen B line of sparkling wines, cider and meads. To accompany each glass, a limited food menu will be served, with a highly-anticipated fare lineup to be announced.
The Four 8 Wineworks is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m.
