Glenrosa Blends Sonoran Cuisine & Scenic Views at Rolling Hills in Tempe

Glenrosa Restaurant, a full-service concept from Chef Samatha Sanz, is now open on the scenic grounds of Tempe’s Grass Clippings Golf Course, bringing authentic Sonoran-style cuisine and a fresh culinary perspective to one of the Southwest’s most unique golf venues. The restaurant is a collaboration between the Grass Clippings team and Sanz, a Sonora, Mexico native and two-time James Beard Award nominee.

Upon entering the mint green doors, Glenrosa’s interior design pays homage to the Southwest’s rich heritage. The space is thoughtfully layered with vintage concert posters, reclaimed soda crates, fresh florals, and Western-inspired accents. A mix of warm wood, concrete, and burgundy tile – materials often seen in traditional taquerias – add texture and authenticity throughout the restaurant. Guests can catch a glimpse of live-fire grilling through expansive glass windows, offering a front-row seat to the culinary action.

Chef Sanz is joined in the kitchen by Executive Chef Victor Davila, an Arizona native with more than a decade of experience in Sonoran and Mediterranean cuisine. His passion for live-fire cooking and bold, ingredient-driven flavors brings Glenrosa’s culinary vision to life. Their shared vision results in a menu that is bold, approachable, and personal.

“This is the Mexican cuisine I grew up eating and cooking in Sonora, authentic dishes made with clean, fresh, and local (as much as possible) ingredients,” says Sanz, in a press release.

Glenrosa offers a menu rooted in the flavors Sanz grew up with – elevated takes on traditional dishes like tacos, Sonoran hot dogs, and ember-roasted meats – paired with sweeping views of the lighted par-three golf course and the nearby Papago Buttes. The taqueria portion of the menu highlights traditional street tacos with options such as carne asada, grilled chicken, fish, and pork chicharron. As the sun sets, Glenrosa’s dinner-only live-fire grill menu takes center stage, offering wood-fired entrees like center-cut filets, Scottish salmon, grilled chicken, Mediterranean branzino, and bone-in ribeye, served family-style with seasonal vegetables, tortillas, rice, and beans.

“This area has always been a gathering point, dating back to the ancient Hohokam people, and famously with Hayden’s Crossing in Tempe, because it was one of the few places where you could cross the Salt River. Today, we’re proud to honor this history, both with authentic Sonoran Desert cuisine, but also by welcoming people from across the Valley to this scenic setting,” says Jake Hoselton, co-founder of Grass Clippings, in a press release.

To complement the menu, Glenrosa’s bar program features a curated selection of wines by the glass or bottle, draft and canned beers, seltzers, and signature cocktails. Guests can savor seasonal cocktails made with fresh-squeezed citrus, scratch-made mixers, and house-infused spirits. Highlights include the Marigold Margarita with Sonoran Sun juice and garnished with a Tajin rim, the Papago Pomegranate Paloma, and the Grassy Palmer made with SanTan’s sweet peach bourbon mixed with lemonade and iced tea.

More than just a restaurant, Glenrosa is a tribute to the region’s agricultural roots, culinary richness, and the joy of sharing a meal. Whether you’re visiting after a round of golf or looking for a destination-worthy meal, Glenrosa invites you to slow down and savor the moment.

The outdoor Glenrosa Bar and adjacent event lawn are open daily from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., creating a space for live music, lawn games, and some of the best sunset views in the Valley. Glenrosa Restaurant is open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., with happy hour offered from 3 to 6 p.m.
