Anhelo Restaurant

Restaurant of the Week: Anhelo

Anhelo restaurant provides an elevated escape from the typical—with an expansive wine program, a world-class menu of exquisitely flavorful dishes and a fresh reimagining of what the typical fine dining experience should look (and feel) like, all of which has helped to put Downtown Phoenix on the map as a culinary haven.

Located in the heart of Phoenix’s downtown metro, you’ll discover Anhelo, a dining establishment so finely tucked into the city’s compact landscape, you might walk past it altogether—though as foodies and locals alike can attest to, it’s an under-the-radar destination that’s not to be missed.

Helmed by chef and owner, Ivan Jacobo, the restaurant recently underwent an upgrade which involved moving to a new location (leaving behind its Heritage Square origins) and revamping its existing wine offerings. With the help of a new wine manager, Anhelo has reintroduced the wine-paired fine-dining experience through the offering of vintages from Napa and Sonoma Valley, Oregon, Burgundy, Bordeaux or Italy.

The new location is so elevated and elegant, a visit to Anhelo (and perhaps a few rotations of its award-winning wine program) provides an authentic culinary immersion that’s unlike anything yet seen in the Valley.

Naturally, after nabbing the top prize as Wine Spectator‘s “Best of Award of Excellence” for 2022, the fine dining established has been credited with its wide array of thoughtful spirits. But make no mistake, the wine pairings are only as good as the food they’re paired with—and Anhelo’s food offerings happen to be very, very good.

With an a la carte-style menu, visitors can choose from a selection of dishes that includes everything from black pepper-infused ricotta dumplings (topped with fresh truffle, no less) to a highly-acclaimed Beef Wellington delicacy that’s hailed as being the best in the entire state and made up of wild mushroom duxelle, prosciutto, black garlic demi-glace and a decadent mustard cream.

Whether you’re stopping in for a date night, looking for a worthy spot to celebrate a big occasion or are simply willing to splurge in order to get an authentic taste of Arizona’s most impressive culinary experience, Anhelo provides one of the most worthwhile culinary immersions in all of Arizona—and perhaps even the entirely of the West Coast.

Anhelo restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.anhelorestaurant.com.
